How To Check Your AntiVirus Software: Simple And Easy No Additional Software Necessary

There are a large number of AV applications available.. Despite their claims to protect your PC, they usually fall short in some way or the other.. Unless you buy a premium anti-virus, they do not prove to be much of a help in protecting your PC..

However there is a simple way to be able to judge the standing of your current anti-virus.. Its by creating a dummy anti-virus and run it on your PC.. It does not harm your computer at all since the file actually an EICAR test file, developed by the European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research, to test the response of computer antivirus programs...

Here is what you gotta do:
1> Right click on your " Desktop " and click on " New " and then " Notepad "..
2> Copy and paste the following code into your Notepad:

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

3> Save the file with any name you like eg: " fakevirus.txt "
4> Now re-open the file.. If your anti-virus displays a warning sign and closes the text file, then rest assured that it is working fine..Or else its time to get a better AV program..
